Book Cover
Challenge
Design a book cover using unconventional typography.
Solution
The book cover for Elie Wiesel's "Night" uses typography created by the designer to portray themes of loss, despair, and emptiness. While the book contains shocking scenes of violence, the deepest and most profound disturbance is the overarching theme of disregard for the sanctity of human life.
The abstract, scattered particles suggest snow, grains of sand, and dirt. Can a life be reduced to something this small and insignificant? What happens after the last footprints of the fallen have melted away, or scattered to the wind?
